Minna taking a big bite

I saw 2 movies yesterday. Me, Myself & Irene (starring Jim Carrey & Renee Zellweger) and Meet Joe Black (Anthony Hopkins & Brad Pitt).

Me, Myself & Irene was the freakiest movie I have ever seen. Full of obscene. But Jim Carrey did an amazing job as being Charley and Hanks at the same time. Its about twin personality. Other than that the movie is a total s***t. I stopped 5 minutes after the movie started cause my family was with me. Then again at night, I played it in the PC, put my headphones on! :-)

I saw a Clint Eastwood movie 2 days ago, Pink Cadillac. It was a nice movie and Clint was, oh so fine. I was amazed to see Jim Carrey was there in that movie in a 10 seconds role, and he was there at the end of the end titles as “Lounge Entertainer — James Carrey”. He wasn’t famous at that time, I guess.

Meet Joe Black had a ridiculous story line. “Death” taking the body of a man and want to live for sometime in this world and he falls in love!!! Aargh! Now I know why Rahul Bose said in the “Koffee with Karan” talk show, that 80% of the hollywood movies were junk for the last 10 years. But Anthony Hopkins was great in his role.

If I ever be offered like this in my life, I would say ‘If you want to take my life, you just take it. But dont tell me that am gonna die’. Its hard for someone to know that they’re gonna die and that would make them feel they wanna live forever. I think the most peaceful death is in sleep. One night you go to sleep and you never wake up. Thats the perfect picture about death in my mind.

I saw the movie “The Terminal“, a Steven Spielberg film, featuring Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta Jones. Tom Hanks is my most favorite actor and he did a good job in this movie also. And the movie has an Indian actor, Kumar Pallana. Catherine Zeta Jones look so gorgeous in the movie. She is a real woman, and I adore her!

Just read from Bob’s blog that Yahoo is going to increase the email storage space to 1 GB. Great to know that but I think Gmail still have some advantages compared to Yahoo. Listed out a few below:

  • Gmail has a good control over Spam mails. The reason I shifted to Gmail is the spam mail control. My Yahoo mail is still having lots of spam.
  • Conversation type — Mails are stored in a conversation type, so that I dont have to waste my time thinking ‘whats this email regarding’!
  • Search features.
  • As Bob said, Free POP3 access.
  • When you upload/download attachments, it wont cut off in between which often happens with Yahoo.

Some disadvantages I found are:

  • When you forward emails that have images or HTML, the recipient wont be able to see those. Or else you will have to attach it.
  • You cannot compose HTML emails.

So far I think Gmail is good. They have to upgrade a bit to make it great.

I am having severe cold these days. Makes me really tired. So these days I go to sleep early. around 12:30 at midnight.

Just saw the movie “Unbreakable” in my PC. I heard that the train disaster was planned by Elijah (played by Samuel L. Jackson) before I saw the movie, so the climax was not quite interesting. And I just can’t stand the idea that he killed so many people, just to find his opposite! Its weird. It just doesnt make any sense. Sixth Sense was a good movie, but this one was just average. But I liked “The Village”, that was an amazing story.

From the time when Sixth Sense was relased here, the news papers given titles like “The Malayalee director finds his way to Oscars this year” etc etc. Although he was born to the Malayalee parents, India didn’t give him anything. He was born and brought up in America. America gave him everything, so why is all that ga-ga over Shyamalan having India roots? It just doesnt make any sense as well.

Before the media waste their time to find India roots of the successfull Americans, they should spend more time on promoting their own fellow countrymen. Stories of people like Medha Patkar, Sunderlal Bahuguna etc are not glamourous, but can make some sense.

I heard some days back that Mark Knopfler is coming to Bangalore. I dont know whether the show is over yet. I missed Sting’s concert and looks like am gonna miss this one too. Not because I will not get enough time to Bangalore, but the ticket rates. It ranges from Rs. 1000->

Frankly speaking, I heard only 2 songs of this guy. The first song, Sultans of Swing, was heard long back. The second song, Lady Writer, was recently heard. There is a basillica church in our town and there are some buildings around this church. One night I met a friend near this church and he is a guitar freak. He said he is practising some songs with his friends in one of the buildings around this church. I went there with him to see them practising. You know, I love watching anyone playing music.

When I was there, their main singer was not there. So this guy asked me whether I could help them singing “Hotel California” by Eagles. I said yes, and I sang it for them. Man, I loved it with their guitars and drums. By the time I finished the song, the main singer came in and they continued to practise. That was when I heard that song for the first time.

I like the guitars in the song Sultans of Swing. Its really great.

I had to attend another funeral of an old woman this week, today. This time in the evening. After the funeral I went to the town and found a fellow going crazy over a blind beggar. The reason was the blind man’s stick somehow ‘touched’ this other guy and he was arguing that the blind beggar is not blind. Some bi-standers came in for the help of the poor blind man and sent off the other guy.

I remember another incident as such in Brigades road, bangalore, some times back. Footpaths were full of people (as usual) and there was this old man breathing heavily to death, lying on the footpath, and nobody was paying attention and after sometime the police came in and took the man to the hospital.

My sister came in yesterday with her children. She left today in the evening. I love having children around sometimes. Because they make the ‘house’ a ‘home’. It is fun to play with them or to argue with them.

Had to wake up early in the morning to attend the funeral of my elder bro’s father-in-law. I went there with my sisters by 8 AM and came back by 10:30 AM. The old man was in the sick bed since a long time and everybody was saying that its better for him that he died at least now. It is always better not to be in the sickbed in the dusk of life.
After I came home I sat with my work and finished by evening. Afterwards, I browsed around a bit and searched for the songs of Willie Nelson in Audio Find. The site is in Russian, but you know the music has no language. So is the case with MP3. :-) I could download some songs from his album “Willie Nelson & Friends: Live and Kickin

You know, the first country album I listened to was by Willie Nelson. The album is called “Spirit” and was released in 1996. The songs were, oh so great! Songs have the background music of only guitar and piano and look at the lyrics like “I guess I’ve come to live here in your eyes…”. Suppose if you’re on travelling, this is the best to play on.

I’m worried about my belly, coz its being a pot belly. So I started doing some excercise in the evening. By sitting almost all the time before my computer, its really getting big. Ajith said last week “its enough of loving your computer, now love someone alive” :-)

Wanted to go to the church in the morning, but felt really sleepy. Had nothing much to do yesterday night, but was browsing around on the web. Biju and Rajesh came by noon and had a little talk with them. I’ve been talking to Rajesh online, but didn’t see him yet. He is nice and frank in his talks. A great admirer of Linux.

Had some sleep in the afternoon and woke up by 5:30 when Sreejith came. Then watched TV for a while and took shower. Ah, I used the Nivea shower gel today. It smells good. Then in the evening went to the town as usual, went to this new shopping mall called “Centre Point” and browsed in a shop. Bought a t-shirt, Christy said it would look good with my denim. I’m not much aware of these things, so always have to rely on the friends to take some good stuff.

Life in Thrissur is quite boring, one can say. But I love the place because its calm, peaceful, people are friendly etc. I like going to Bangalore to visit my friends and to chill out a bit. Bangalore is a fine place, but crowdy. Okay, I will list out a few things that makes Bangalore different than Thrissur.

  • It’s posh (only in 4-5 areas)
  • It has Brigades Road
  • It has pubs and cool climate
  • It has full of youngsters and energy
  • When you go to the outer town, you will find pig toilets(!!!)
  • People are not friendly
  • You can find a lot of MNC ambassadors in the city (wearing Armani, Gucci etc)
  • If you have the money, you can hire a girl for the night (looks doesnt matter)
  • Young, pretty student prostitutes
  • Liquor is cheaper than Kerala
  • A huge amount of pick pocketers (including rikshaw wallahs)

Now, thats it I guess. (No offence meant). But still I like going there and do the shopping and chill out with friends in a pub. I went to “Purple Haze” where they play the rock music with a wide video screen. The place is quite rocking, cant say neat though. (thats what rockers want, right?). A friend of mine said they always play the same thing, so thats gonna be boring. Anyway, I will visit the place once again.
